What is that funny looking grass popping up all over my lawn and yard?
Do you have this grass taking over your yard or grass? It is called nutgrass or nutsedge and takes a special chemical to kill it. The traditional weed spray we use on our landscape applications will not kill it and pulling it won’t do the trick either. It can take several months to completely get rid of nutgrass. It has strong roots and nodules that are often referred to as “nuts”. The most thorough way to rid your lawn of nut grass is by removing the plant, root and all, by hand. You can also try chemical herbicides specifically for nutgrass. Keep spraying it every month. It you attempt to pull the grass out, the root will break off from the plant and form another one, resulting in a vicious circle. Spraying it or completley digging out the grass, root and all is the only solution that works.
