Pomegranate (Punica Granatum)
The Pomegranate is an easy to grow plant and birds will flock to in in August and September in Arizona for the juice and seeds inside the dark-red fruit. The Pomegranate is an excellent landscape plant in Arizona desert. It can be grown as a tree or shrub or trellised to a wall. In April, the ruffled orange-red flowers appear and in fall it’s leaves turn bright yellow. It is hardy to 10 degrees. Plant the Pomegranate plant in full sun to light shade. Water regularly and deeply to encourage fruit growth. Once it is established, it needs little water. In Phoenix, the “Wonderful” variety of Pomegranate is recommended.
